Dog Grooming Tools
Finding a Dog groomer or the right Dog Grooming Tools has become a huge part of the pet industry today. People are spending record amounts to have their dogs groomed at swanky professional dog salons and veterinarians. The truth is that there are health reasons that require you to do specific dog grooming for your precious pooch on a regular basis.

Dog grooming is important in the routine care of your dog. The type of grooming and frequency depend on the breed, age and the overall health of your dog. When you are regularly grooming your dog, you can monitor their coat and skin for parasites, cuts and swelling. It allows you to form a stronger bond and notice changes in behavior in your dog that could tip you off to a hidden illness.
Dog Grooming At Home VS. Using A Dog Grooming Service |
If you decide that you want to groom your dog at home instead of using a dog grooming service, you will need a set of dog grooming tools. To start with you will need a sturdy grooming table with some type of non-slip surface on the top. Your dog may be nervous enough. You don't want them slipping or losing their balance and falling.
Next you will want to choose a brush and or a comb for your grooming tools set. You will want to make your choice carefully and base it on your dog's hair type. So be sure to read the descriptions before buying and match them to your dog's hair type.
If you go all out and purchase an actual dog grooming table, you can get one that has a bath tub in it but for most of us we will probably just be using the regular bath. I would suggest purchasing a http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?u=391742&b=194006&m=6222&afftrack=Dog%20Bath&urllink=www%2Eentirelypets%2Ecom%2Frapidbath%2Ehtml that hooks up to your water nozzle in the tub. It makes washing your dog so much easier.
After the bath, some people choose to dry their dog with some type of hair dryer . I have tried this a couple of different ways, but Rodeo just hates it. Lol The last time, he tried to eat the hair dryer!
So I have resorted to thoroughly towel drying him and then just letting him air dry. He seems much happier that way but you can use your own judgment with your dog. You know and understand your dog's behavior and personality the best.
My best advice is before you purchase an expensive dryer for your dog grooming tools kit, borrow one from a friend or take your dog to a groomer to test it out and see how they react.
What You Need In Your Grooming Tool Kit |
Once you have the basics dog grooming tools above, you'll need to have a kit with the smaller grooming pieces. Your kit should include the following: - Nail Clippers or Nail Filing Dremel Type Tool
- Quality Shears/Scissors
- Quality Clippers with Guides
- Razors
- Currycombs
- Shedding Blade
- Stripping Comb
- Dog Toothpaste & Toothbrush
- Ear Cleaner/Ear Mite Treatments
- Q-tips & Cotton Balls
- Hot Spot Treatments
- Flea & Tick Treatments
- Dog Wormer
- “Bling”

Once you have your supplies picked out, you are going to need a container or box for your grooming tools. There are some very nice metal grooming boxes that have wheels with a long handle that make it easy to move around. It's also nice to choose a box that had a drawer to keep extra dog grooming tools in for easy access. Many of the grooming tools you can purchase are far from cheap, so purchasing a box with a lock could be beneficial.
One final note that I'd like to mention. I included “bling” in my list of dog grooming tools above. What I'm referring to is items like dog nail polish, bows and ribbons for their fur and perhaps even doggie clothing and collars for those extra special occasions. It's the latest craze and everybody's doing it. Just be sure if you are choosing clothing for your companion that you make sure to get something that fits appropriately. Some groomers will also offer services like coloring your dog's fur crazy colors too.
