With multiple mixed messages coming from the pet food industry itself and confusing double talk labeling on the packaging, it's no wonder most people have difficulty in figuring out what they should and shouldn't be feeding their furry friend. So where do you begin your search?
Your dog's health and happiness is the most important part of your search. If your precious pooch is anything like my loving Border Collies, Rodeo and Maddie, then they are spoiled rotten! I truly believe you just can't love your dog too much.
Dogs are like children. They require just as much care and love. Don't tell me you haven't gotten the "look" when you didn't give your darling dog what they wanted. If Rodeo doesn't get what Rodeo wants, believe me, the pouting session is unbelievable. The funny part is I would have never have let my children get away with that! LOL!
Our story begins like so many others who are sadly watching their pets suffer. So after watching my Rodeo struggle with his Dog Food and his joint health, we decided to do something about it. We went on a quest to find out what would give him more energy, better digestion, all around better health and not break the bank. This was a long and tedious journey that I'm not sure will ever truly end, but I want to share with you what we have learned. So are you ready to learn the ins and outs of feeding and caring for your dog? Let's start with the basic questions.
Food Allergies
Does your dog have food allergies? Do you know what to do for your dog's allergies? Do you know there are foods that are toxic to your dog? There are many to avoid and some to completely leave out of your dog's diet. This is especially critical if you are making homemade dog food. Do you know which foods are dangerous or toxic to your dog?
Healthy Dog Food Ingredients
It's also important to consider your dog's overall healthy diet. So many people get caught up in the idea of their dog only needing a meat or protein diet.
The truth is that dogs are just like us in that they need a well balanced diet that includes meat, vegetables and carbohydrates.
There are important things to think about when presenting your dog with their food. Instead of just plopping a bowl of dog food down in front of your dog, think about the following. Do you limit their intake or do you allow free access? Do you feed the same thing every day or do you alternate food sources? What is the right way to feed your dog? I will reveal multiple feeding options that are available to fit your dog food needs.
Treats and Snacks
What type of treats or snacks to you allow your dog to have? Are they A store bought brand, premium, all natural dog treats or homemade dog treats? What are the ingredients in the dog biscuit and how many are you feeding your pet dog?
It's easy to get caught up in rewarding or even just spoiling your dog with too many dog bones. Often dog treats are the cause of obesity because pet parents don't realize the amount of calories in some of the treats they are feeding.
We will discuss how to use dog treats effectively and what types of dog treats are healthy and low calorie.
Basic Dog Care
Most of us go that extra mile to pamper our pooches, but sometimes we just aren't aware of their complete health needs. Not only is it important to consider your dog's nutritional needs, but you must also make sure they receive the daily amount of love, attention and exercise that they need from you as a pet parent.
You know how happy they are to see you when you get home. Take the time each day to satisfy their needs for affection. The rewards for your love and attention will be returned with a lifetime of unconditional love. Ask yourself, does your dog get enough exercise and attention every day?
You should take into consideration the basics of daily dog care. Remember it is your responsibility to take them to the vet on a regular basis for routine checkups.
Some pet parents misunderstand the relationship with their vet, thinking that you only go to the vet when your dog is sick but you need to think of your vet as a prevention tool and not just as a last resort when your dog is ill.
It is important to see your vet regularly when your dog is healthy for screenings and vaccinations. This helps prevent illnesses and keeps you from making those frantic emergency trips to the vet. It also gives your vet the opportunity to get to know your dog as a healthy animal and better diagnose them when they are sick. It also gives your dog a chance to bond with the vet on happy terms and not when they feel bad or when they are scared and sick.
It is essential that you build or purchase a quality outdoor house or shelter for your dog. Your dog needs to be able to get out of the heat and the cold all year long. Most important is fresh water. Whatever you do, make sure your dog has clean, fresh water every single day, all day long!
Remember, you chose your dog and made a commitment to care for them for a lifetime. Give them the best gift you have to give, which in their eyes is your time and your love.
So take some time out for your Dogs Health and check out the available Dog Foods and health options. Your Dog will love you a lifetime for it!
